The National Parks in tier list
pretty good, decent. started folkier and moved toward pop, which I think was not the move for them. I suspect that if they grow on me it will be in their first album- others are fine but very much only fine. They definitely feel like a little bit of a wait and see, so. We’ll see.
RELISTEN1: I pretty much like everything. There’s nothing I dislike, there’s nothing I don’t like, I like it all. It’s a little samey, but it’s a samyness in a style I’m comfortable and familiar with so I don’t mind it as much as I might otherwise. That said, I still don’t know if I like it enough for an A-. It’s pleasant, enjoyable, and incredibly unproblematic, but it’s not particularly attractive. There’s nothing that pulls me to it, that makes me particularly want to like the band, to like The National Parks. Which is kinda a bummer, but I’m also okay with it. I was right that I like the first album the most, that’s the one that I get the most invested in the band for, but I was wrong that the later albums wouldn’t grow on me too. I think they’re all pretty good. There’s nothing wrong with pretty good, there’s nothing wrong with a strong B+. I dunno, it’s a funny middle ground, yknow? I like them a lot for how much I like them. Or maybe, I don’t like them as much as you’d think for as much as I like them. It’s hard to say. I dunno. Either way, I like ‘em, like the new albums, I’m happy to give a B+
