Initially I merged Ben Folds and Ben Folds Five into one ranking ‘cause they’re both mostly Ben Folds and I didn’t feel they felt different enough from each other to warrant two separate rankings.
Did a RELISTEN1: definitely think that was a mistake, they’re totally different, and I think I like Ben Folds solo stuff significantly more. Don’t like Way to Normal, don’t love So There or Supersunnyspeedygraphic, really really like Rockin’ the Suburbs and Songs for Silverman, both as albums and I legitimately love tons of the individual songs. All around I call Folds kinda on par with Chili Peppers and Beck, in that there are definitely glaring issues and things I don’t actually like (sometimes he is just straight up gross or inflammatory just for the sake of it and that’s just unpleasant), but I like the general vibe and there is so much that I genuinely and specifically love
