155: The Wilder Blue (B)

The Wilder Blue in tier list

I actually like it a good bit, I think. They’ve got the country accent twang and they use the country instruments and they draw from many of the hallmarks of the country genre, but they write their own songs and they don’t feel to me like they’re married to the format. They like the country sound and they have the country sound, but they aren’t bound with the country chains that I often feel country artists are- especially in their second album I feel like they do a good job of drawing inspiration (even if heavy inspiration) from country without being bound by it. In all honesty I would wager that many country artists would describe themselves this way, and I just don’t have the granularity of ear/the experience to recognize the decisions they are making. That’s not to say all the country artists who describe themselves that way are right, but I can’t say right now I feel very comfortable being the judge of that. Just means I have to listen to more country, get in my reps.Anyway, all that to say my first impression of these guys is good and I’m open to them growing on me, despite what does remain of my bias against country music
