168: Greta Van Fleet (C)

Greta Van Fleet in tier list

definitely feels like I’m listening out of order, like I need to go do some catch up, first listen to a bunch of classic rock, Led Zeppelin kinda stuff. It’s very much that. That’s not a mystery, that’s what everybody says about it, but like, yeah. It’s impossible to not hear it. Anyway, strong start, I like the first album a lot, good album. After that I just don’t really care about them at all, and I’m not entirely sure why. I don’t have enough experience with the genre, I don’t have enough context to really understand why some songs grab me and others don’t when they all kinda sound the same to me still. Maybe when they cycle back into my listening I’ll hear the songs I added and love them and relisten and like all the music. That’s possible. I wouldn’t count on it, though. My first impression is that it’s definitely well made, but it’s a) not really my style and b) I think repetitive/samey/overlong. Enough that it became hard to listen to. Not painful, just hard. It would slip through my ears, I couldn’t keep my attention on it. Enough to warrant a C, I think. Which sucks, because I really did want to like them a lot

  1. ERG. Led Zeppelin was my favorite band for two full years in college. I listened to them constantly. With Greta Van Fleet I just couldn’t get past how much they sound like Led Zeppelin… but just aren’t them. I had the same experience as you did – I just couldn’t keep my attention on what I was hearing. I was constantly zoned out. Boo. I give them a D. I won’t be listening to them again ever.
