175: Parker McCollum (B)

Parker McCollum in tier list

I think I’m approaching the point where my bias against country music is mostly just that I don’t trust them to write any of their own music, and once that’s resolved they’re just another kind of pop. Not necessarily one I’m enamored with, but that’s the same type of taste preference I have with other genres, not a unique distaste for country. McCollum does write his own music, and as far as country music goes, he’s pretty dang good, I feel. Consistent and fun and thoughtful, and very clean/polished without being lifeless. It’s not groundbreaking or anything and there weren’t really any standout songs, but I do like it, it does what it’s trying to do really well. Imma give it a B

  1. Here’s the thing, I do like a fair amount of country music. Country music can have some of the best storytelling, can’t stop crying, car dancing, community bonding, nostalgic songs out there, and shoot…this was good, but nothing that kept my attention musically or lyrically. It was fine. But nothing is going on my personal playlist. So with that in mind, Parker gets a C.
