182: The Unicorns (C-)

ait’s… interesting. There are parts, there are ideas that I like and am curious about, but I think presentation is pretty thoroughly lacking, I don’t love it. Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone is better than their very initial stuff for sure, but it still feels a little awkward and strange for the sake of being awkward and strange. It often reminds me of the end of Deep Kick by Red Hot Chili Peppers, they’ll sing with a really affected voice that’s not whiny, I can’t quite describe it, it’s whiny adjacent and I don’t particularly like it. What I’m getting at is I feel like they’re pushing at what can and should be called “music” or “musical”, and it’s not super enjoyable. I really like it in the moments it’s trying to sound musical and pleasant, but those moments aren’t super common and I’m not pulled in by or curious enough about the unpleasant stuff to like it much. I respect it, there are things I like and things I’d want to like, but it’s not there for me. I’m thinking a C-
