Cosmos People (宇宙人) in tier list
very pleasant and enjoyable. Something about the first two albums feels somewhat shallow for reasons I can’t pin down. I like most every song in them, it’s all very enjoyable, but I’m not gonna call it a good album. I don’t know quite why but something’s not there. Third album is super solid. I almost wanna fully call it a good album. I don’t know what exactly is holding me back. It might just be I was too tired or absent while listening to pay attention well. That hypothesis is supported by how well I liked albums four and five. There’s always some wondering I do on whether my liking an artist more by the end is because they’ve been improving or because I’ve gotten better at listening to them, and that’s definitely coming into play here. Albums four and five I’d call good without many reservations. Fun hooks, good pacing, I enjoy them both a lot all the way through. And yet, I don’t think they were substantially different from album three, which I noted as having not liked as much. I dunno.
In any case, I think I’m just about won over. They’re fun and poppy and groovy and mostly just a good time. I’ll start ‘em off at an A- and we can go from there. One other thing to note, extremely minor— there was one song in here that’s called 要去高雄 (I’m going to Kaohsiung), and the song is basically just “I’m going to Kaohsiung, party party!”. Kaohsiung is a port city in Taiwan, it’s got lots of beaches and stuff and is generally considered a good place to vacation, and it’s a place that I’d been to by the time I was listening to this song. That’s all, really. I just thought it was neat to be listening to this alien music in an alien place and feel the connection between the music and the place and myself. Kinda cool.
