I don’t like this. I think by the end they were fine enough that I could’ve given them a low B- or a high D+, but my impression of them and general feeling of them was low enough, especially at the beginning, that that’s not gonna happen. The first album was particularly unenjoyable. It’s not interesting, it’s not fun, it’s not musical. I don’t even think it’s “bad”, I think from what I understand of this genre they’re doing a fine enough job, I just don’t have any attraction to it at all. There’s no harmony, there’s no melody, the rhythms feel canned and uninspired, and while I don’t understand enough Chinese to know if they’re being lyrical or not on that front, I can understand enough English to know that they subscribe to the genre’s general usage of crass language. I don’t like it.
Second album is maybe marginally better but about the same. Albums three and four are both better, those are the ones I could see myself calling weak B-s. Which is good, that’s fine. I definitely softened a little toward them by the end of my listen, but not by a lot. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I like ‘em any time soon, but they shifted from what felt like toneless pounding to a kind of more poppy rap that I still don’t care for but I’m not quite as disinclined toward. So, D- but no hard feelings as opposed to D- with hard feelings
