I’ve decided I just don’t like Doherty’s voice. I think he gets away with it in his other projects, but not here. I just feel like there’s nothing going on here, it’s such a struggle to even listen well. I found myself tuning it out so thoroughly. I’d try to pay better attention, but it was very very tough. And honestly, the fact that I was tuning it out is informative in itself. I don’t know if I could even try to justify saying my struggle to listen to this is because it’s bad, because it had absolutely no presence in my ears, I don’t know what I would complain about.
Who am I kidding, I know what I want to complain about. I can say that it seems like the type of thing where the emphasis of the songwriting is on the poetry and lyricism and vibes, and none of those things impressed me here. It feels similar enough to Libertines and Babyshambles that I don’t even feel a need to hold onto any of these songs as representatives of Peter Doherty individually, and enough worse that I don’t really want to listen to any of these songs again anyway. It’s boring. I don’t like it
