I don’t love the vocals so much, but I’ll probably mellow out on that. My first impression is that it’s pretty alright, kinda basic but not bad. The first two albums are a little rougher– not in a bad way, just aesthetically more garage rock. I think that probably was better for them. After they cleaned up their sound to a more polished and crisp indie rock thing, it kinda laid them bare, and laid bare I think they’re pretty meh. Just not a lot going on, not that catchy, not my jam. I think my favorite album of theirs is probably Slipway Fires, which is kinda right in between their garage rock and indie rock sounds, I feel like it gets as close to best of both worlds as they can. All around I’m gonna give it a C. I don’t enjoy it enough for the Bs, and there’s definitely not enough of a nugget of gold inside for me to consider it a C+
