283: Lauv (D)

Lauv in tier list

the only song I remember having heard before is his main hit, I Like Me Better. I don’t particularly like that song. It’s fine, but I find it kinda boring and repetitive. If it comes up around me I’m chill with it, but if I hear it a lot in a short time I’ll get tired of it. I think that’s generally how I feel about most of Lauv’s stuff. Well, no, that’s not entirely fair. There are plenty of songs I like pretty well even though I think they’re a little simple and repetitive, but I don’t think there are any that really stand out to me or that I really love. It’s like a 50/50 split between songs where I go, “Yeah I like that one pretty well” and songs where I go “Eh I don’t much care for it”. The third album, All 4 Nothing, I liked the most but even that one felt basic and simple.

I have nothing against basic and simple— Jack Johnson is basic and simple, and I love Jack Johnson. In this case, though, I did not feel like it worked super well, I think it capped my enjoyment not insubstantially. I think if there were even just one or two songs that stood out to me, that I really liked, I could convince myself that it could make sense to call this a B- or something. But without that I can’t really say I’m much more than indifferent, overall. I definitely don’t dislike Lauv, but I don’t really like him enough to like him, either, which puts him in the D range. As I’d been listening to him I was planning on giving a B or B-, but upon review I think it’s gotta be a D. Whoops

Lauv complete, now listening to: Collective Soul
