285: Grim Salvo (A)

Grim Salvo in tier list

I think this might kinda be my shit, this is dope. It’s dramatic, earnest, and thoughtful. It’s got swagger, rhythm, feeling. It feels to me like it harbors such dissatisfaction with itself and the world, and turns that into something awesome. Production is tight, I feel it keeps a very engaging tension between melodic and harmonic stuff, and SOUND stuff (which I think I categorize screams under). It’s all just a vibe, I gotta get into metal.

I kinda like the first album better, but I also might have just been more excited about it because it was more fresh and new? I dunno. I think the second album might be better as an album, but I’m not sure. I feel like the beats are tighter, but I don’t feel like it’s as “woah! This is cool!” as Mildred. But again, maybe that’s because it’s not quite as fresh and new to me. I dunno. Either way, I’m not too worried about it, I still liked it a lot. It’s like the cool rhythms I like from hip-hop but instead of the thematic and melodic stuff I often dislike in hip-hop (thematic because it’s gross, melodic because it’s boring) it takes those elements from something more metal, which I think is dope. It’s big rage and discontent vibes instead of sex. Dope

So yeah. All around I enjoyed muchly, this is a jam. Easy A
