I feel Robyn goes through a couple phases, has some distinct sounds. Some of them I like a fair bit; some of them I do not care for. Her first album feels too smoothed over to me, if that makes sense. My Truth is way more pop leaning, a little bit sharper and brighter, I enjoyed it much more. Unfortunately, that’s kinda where Robyn peaked for me. There were moments in later albums where I started to feel some of how I might like her as an artist, places where I could see things that were well done even while I wasn’t super enjoying it. The last two albums, Do It Again and Honey, in particular I thought were actually quite good. I don’t think I’ll ever really care to listen to them again, they’re not my thing, but I do think they’re good.
That all puts Robyn at a pretty clean C. There’s a lot about her I think is neat, and I definitely think that she is, like, “good” within the space in which she operates. I’m just not terribly interested in that space.
