I did not realize how much Bruno Mars I… not how much I knew, but how much I knew well. Most of that from his debut album, no less. There were so many songs I knew by heart already, songs I grew up with on the radio—and I grew up loving them, singing along to them. That’s pretty neat, I think.
So, Doo-Wops & Hooligans I’m here for. Unorthodox Jukebox and 24K Magic, less so. Those two are fine, but I really don’t care about them at all. They both have a few songs I like, though frankly it’s hard to say how much that’s because I actually like them and how much it’s because they’ve been played around me enough times that I can’t help but like them a little bit.
Silk Sonic is good, that’s super solid. I don’t think I have much else to say, just that it is fun and good and groovy.
So all around, not a whole lot of commentary. I don’t think it’s that deep, frankly. He’s a charismatic performer and that shines through his tracks. He’s got fun songs. He thrives on sex appeal, which I don’t particularly care for, but eh. Mostly I think he’s pretty good. B
