I first listened through Dom Fera’s songs about a year and a half ago. He’s one of my best friend’s favorite artists, so I listened through all his singles and enjoyed them a fair bit. I wasn’t blown away, but I liked every song a lot, a few songs I loved, and he’s grown on me a fair bit since then. I didn’t give him an “official” listen because he hadn’t yet released an album, which yes, I do still recognize as an arbitrary and limiting, and yes, I do still hold to because despite all the flaws of the system I still think that systematizing my listening has helped me do it more and better. Anyway. I’m giving him an official listen now!
And boy do I like him quite a lot. I think if I had ranked him a year and a half ago I would’ve given a mid-low A-, but by now I feel quite comfortable with the high A. He has tons of songs I love, that feel good to me, that have lyrics that hit. He is incredibly easy to like, and he gets to be more so the more time I put in. When his album, Lately, came out I listened to it three times in a row. When I listened to it again for this, I listened to it another four times. It’s easy listening, and I feel I get more out of it every time. It’s the kind of music that not only do I enjoy, but I would be quick to recommend; I’d find myself somewhat surprised by anybody who dislikes it, y’know? Good stuff.
