Tom Cardy in tier list I know a bunch of these songs already, I dunno how long I’ve been listening to him on YouTube. Listening to them all in a set, as albums, without the video, did change my experience somewhat. It lowered my tolerance for lyrics that are viscerally off-putting or uncomfortable, and itContinue reading “259: Tom Cardy (A)”

240: Peter Doherty (D-)
Peter Doherty in tier list I’ve decided I just don’t like Doherty’s voice. I think he gets away with it in his other projects, but not here. I just feel like there’s nothing going on here, it’s such a struggle to even listen well. I found myself tuning it out so thoroughly. I’d try toContinue reading “240: Peter Doherty (D-)”
238: N.Flying (B+)
N.Flying in tier list they’ve got chunks of songs that I like, and chunks of songs that I think are pretty meh, and a couple of standout songs that are really quite fun. A lot of it felt very boyband-y to me, Western boybandy. Which, I’m not against the Western boyband sound, I think it’sContinue reading “238: N.Flying (B+)”
234: Novo Amor (A)
Novo Amor in tier list I’m a fan, I’m in. I admit, I’d kinda lose track of it while I was listening, but I don’t think I attribute that to the music lacking anything. Whenever I did tune in a little more, I was impressed and interested. Enough that I just added each album toContinue reading “234: Novo Amor (A)”
232: Laufey (C-)
Laufey in tier list I can see the appeal, I think, and I almost feel the appeal. But it also, not really my vibe. I’ve done my listen, I went over the instrumental versions, I watched the Adam Neely video essay on her, I’ve got an opinion formed or forming. I don’t actually care tooContinue reading “232: Laufey (C-)”
231: The Black Keys (A)
The Black Keys in tier list They took a second to ramp up, but once they did they were on it, like for real for real. The first three or four albums are all kinda weak, I feel. They’re super simple and bluesy, with limited instrumentation and a fuzzy garage sound. It’s not bad, itContinue reading “231: The Black Keys (A)”
219: Shi Shi (希希) (A-→A)
Shi Shi (希希) in tier list I like it a lot on first blush, and by and large I think I’ll keep liking it as I listen more. Strong start on the first album, it’s funky and fun, the songs feel tight. Easy to listen to pop-production that doesn’t feel boring or reductive, I couldContinue reading “219: Shi Shi (希希) (A-→A)”
218: Ann (白安) (A-)
Ann (白安) in tier list my first impression was generally positive, and but by the time I’d listened to the second album twice through I was pretty on board. The first album was a little repetitive and slow for my tastes, but I think I still appreciate and enjoy it for the most part, I’dContinue reading “218: Ann (白安) (A-)”
215: G.E.M. (D+→B)
G.E.M. in tier list it’s alright. There are parts that draw me in, but then it keeps going and repeating and it loses me. There will be places where in my head I think, “ah, now a bridge to shake up the chords or at least the melody!” and it will just keep looping theContinue reading “215: G.E.M. (D+→B)”
203: Young the Giant (A)
Young the Giant in tier list I like it for sure. I don’t know that I love it, but I have no specific complaints and it’s generally enjoyable, I could see it growing on me. Honestly, even the difference between first and second listen was pretty huge, pretty consistently across every album. I dunno ifContinue reading “203: Young the Giant (A)”
