I first listened through all of Jamie Miller’s stuff (little as there is) almost exactly three years ago, at the behest of a girl, but he didn’t have a full studio album released at the time so I didn’t count it as an official listen and I didn’t make any real record of it. Going by that count, he wouldn’t be my 348th artist, he’d be my 145th, right between 144: Chris Brown (F+) and 145: Radiohead (C).
Then, he released an album two years ago and I listened to it and thought it was pretty decent. I still didn’t count it as an official listen because… I forgot to? I was too lazy? If I’d counted him then, he’d be my 234th artist, between 233: beabadoobee (A-) and 234: Novo Amor (A). Doesn’t really matter; I’m getting him in now. 348th it is!
347: LAUNDRY DAY (B-) was the last of the concert openers I had to get through; Jamie Miller is the start of a handful of artists I’ve already listened to in their entirety but, because they didn’t have “an album” (whatever that is) I hadn’t counted officially. I think I’m changing that rule so that as long as an artist has at least “an album” worth of music, maybe 10-20 songs, I’ll be willing to give them an official listen. How exciting. Anyway.
I don’t really have that much to say about him. He’s fine. He’s got some fun songs. I like “It Is What It Is.” It’s basic, but it’s a party to turn up and sing along to. His album, Long Way Home, is, as I said, decent. But, it also sounds so much in type, so cookie cutter. I like it, but it almost sounds like Sora to me at times, to a point that detracts and distracts. So that’s a bummer.
Mostly, I think he’s fine. I mostly think the stuff he’s put out is enjoyable, and I have very few feelings about him beyond that. Solid B-.
