333: Magdalena Bay (A)

Magdalena Bay in tier list

This is kinda a toss up, in terms of the specific place I put it in the As. I know I want it to be a high A; more than that, I couldn’t really say. I don’t think the particular placing matters that much, means that much. It can’t, y’know?

Anyway. I quite enjoyed Magdalena Bay, I’m pretty instantly a fan. I was pretty convinced I was going to like them even just 30 seconds into “How To Get Physical,” the first song of theirs that I listened to, and I was right. All three of their albums (I am including A Little Rhythm and a Wicked Feeling in this count) rock, each one better than the last. Mercurial World made me think that I might be able to get into EDM one day, and Imaginal Disk just is such a solidly good pop album, I really think it’s great. They have a bunch of really short EPs and loads of singles, and those are all quite good as well—particularly their “Nice Day” singles, their most recent ones at time of writing, those are all excellent.

I don’t have much more to say than that. I was hooked and I think they followed through. I wanted to like them and I do, and I think I will probably keep liking them more. Good good stuff. Easy A.
